St Gallen region reconsiders deep geothermal energy after failed project

A new study finds that parts of eastern Switzerland could again be suitable for deep geothermal energy, 13 years after an earthquake halted St Gallen’s pioneering project. Buchs, Ebnat-Kappel and Widnau/Diepoldsau are among the locations identified for possible future drilling, reviving debate over the risks and potential of domestic renewable energy.
