Efficiency comes at a heavy price: the SBC slashed its workforce by 4.3% in a desperate bid to stabilize the ship. A total of 248 full-time equivalent roles were eliminated last year, a move that successfully reduced staff costs by CHF 15.6 million. However, the cost of this transformation is itself a financial burden. Operating costs actually rose by CHF 11.4 million, driven largely by the provisions required for this massive restructuring. The SBC is effectively spending money to save money, a painful but necessary paradox as it pivots toward a digital-first future. The human cost of these cuts is significant, reflecting a leaner, more agile, but undoubtedly strained organization that must now do more with significantly fewer hands on deck.
