"Last year, Swiss Solidarity donated almost CHF30 million to 44 projects in Ukraine to rehabilitate housing, provide medical care and protect children"
Swiss Solidarity, the humanitarian arm of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), demonstrated remarkable fundraising success in 2024, collecting CHF34.4 million ($37.7 million) in donations. This significant achievement underscores the Swiss public's continued commitment to humanitarian causes both domestically and internationally. The organization efficiently deployed these funds, with total expenditure reaching CHF63 million on various humanitarian projects throughout the year.
Half of Swiss Solidarity's humanitarian budget was directed towards Ukraine, with nearly CHF30 million supporting 44 distinct projects. These initiatives focused on crucial areas including housing rehabilitation, medical care provision, and child protection services. Beyond Ukraine, the organization maintained its global commitment, allocating CHF11.5 million to 27 projects in earthquake-affected regions of Turkey and Syria. Additionally, CHF5.9 million was dedicated to civilian aid in the Middle East, while CHF2.7 million supported humanitarian efforts in Sudan.
On the domestic front, Swiss Solidarity responded swiftly to natural disasters affecting Switzerland, raising CHF13 million for communities impacted by severe summer storms. The organization also demonstrated its commitment to social causes within Switzerland, allocating CHF5 million to support child victims of violence and abuse, both domestically and internationally. This balanced approach to both local and international needs reflects Swiss Solidarity's comprehensive humanitarian strategy.
The 2024 fundraising results, while impressive, show a slight decrease from the previous year's CHF54 million. However, the organization maintained its high level of project implementation, demonstrating efficient fund utilization across various humanitarian sectors. Swiss Solidarity's ability to respond to multiple crises simultaneously - from natural disasters to conflict zones - showcases its operational flexibility and the enduring spirit of Swiss humanitarian tradition.
