Switzerland-India Trade Deal Receives Parliamentary Approval

In a landmark decision on March 21, 2025, the Swiss parliament approved a comprehensive trade agreement with India, marking the successful conclusion of 16 years of careful negotiations. The trade agreement received strong parliamentary support, passing with 131 votes in favor against 22 opposing votes. The main opposition came from members of the Socialist Party, who advocated for the exclusion of investments associated with social and environmental concerns.

This overwhelming majority support reflects the broad consensus among Swiss lawmakers regarding the deal's strategic importance and potential economic benefits for Switzerland.
