Swissgrid plans to invest approximately CHF 5.5 billion in the national electricity grid by 2040.
The modernization plan includes 31 major projects: 25 existing projects and 6 new ones.
New power lines are planned for 790 kilometers of the grid.
Swissgrid will increase voltage and power on 400 kilometers of the existing 6,700-kilometer grid.
Two-thirds of Switzerland's transmission lines are currently more than 60 years old.
